„Wireless phytoplankton. Sanctuary Network” Stach Szumski

“Wireless phytoplankton. Sanctuary Network” Stach Szumski, Barrie Briggs This book documents a synergy between two friends, spanning the time period from 2011 to 2025, accumulated in the form of paintings. Visual notes accompanying the repainting process of the infinite concrete walls surrounding the coastal areas of Okinawa. I had the opportunity to visit and to work with Barrie in Okinawa in 2011, 2019, and 2025. Every time we were repainting the same enormous wall in Itoman. The eroding layers of our previous paintings were becoming an integral part of a new composition, or rather a trace / afterimage that we were digesting and rearranging with another layer of paint. Such a natural circle of life, the temporality of the painting being exposed to natural processes of erosion, to finally be rearranged by newborn layers of fresh paint. The magmatic universum of abstract shapes, deconstructed figuration, and poetic messages blends into one collaged organism. This leads us to an infinite process that doesn’t search for a final result of closed form, it rather searches for painting as a process itself.
